Atletico Madrid might offload Diego Costa sooner than later, but Los Colchoneros have already set their sights on a potential replacement for the Spain international. According to a report report from Spanish outlet AS, the Liga giants are reportedly taking long, hard look at the possibility of signing Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguay international has been dealing with injuries during the current season, but he’s reportedly open to make a move away from PSG once his current contract expires at the end of the 2019-20 campaign. He is tired of being just a complementary piece on PSG’s attacking line, as the presence of Neymar and the emergence of Kylian Mbappe have removed Cavani away from being the main man for Les Parisiens.

It’s unclear whether he would be willing to move to Spain, though. Cavani is already 32, and will be 33 once the season ends. Even though he remains highly productive – he netted 23 goals in 33 appearances during the 2018-19 campaign, while scoring twice in three matches this term – there is a chance he might choose to play in a more relaxing environment. He has been heavily linked with a move to join Inter Miami FC in 2020.

Atletico would certainly benefit from his arrival, though. A pairing of Cavani and Joao Felix could be just what Diego Simeone needs to bolster his attacking line.
