Real Madrid’s 2018-19 season has not gone according to expectations, and the La Liga giants are already making plans for the 2019-20 campaign where apparently one of their priorities would be to strengthen things on the defensive side of the ball.

One of the players that Los Merengues are reportedly looking goes by the name of Marquinhos. The Brazilian star has thrived as a defensive midfielder for PSG this term, but he can also operate as a centre-back and that duality of functions certainly looks appealing for manager Santiago Solari.

The Brazil international is already considered to be one of the best defenders in the world and being only 24 means he still has several years before reaching his prime. He would form an excellent long-term partnership alongside Raphael Varane, especially considering Sergio Ramos is not getting any younger.

It remains to be seen whether PSG will be open to part ways with the Brazilian, though. The former AS Roma star has taken on a bigger role under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel during the current season, and he’s under contract until 2022 so there’s no doubt he’s part of the club’s long-term plans. In other words, he’s not going to be a cheap player.

Spanish newspaper El Pais claims Real Madrid have already established contact with PSG to study the possibility of a summer transfer. Will we see Marquinhos donning Los Merengues’ white next season? Apparently, that could end up being a realistic possibility.
