Olivier Giroud has been one of the most prolific strikers in the English Premier League over the past few years. However, the French forward might leave for greener pastures during the upcoming January transfer window.

Giroud told L’Equipe that he is reportedly considering leaving Arsenal during the upcoming month in order to boost his chances of playing for France in the World Cup next year.

“I have the World Cup at the back of my mind weekly, almost daily,” Giroud said. “Each time I go onto the pitch, it’s to be more clinical and keep on track for the World Cup.”

There could be some outside pressure for a Giroud exit, however, as manager Didier Deschamps has apparently advised Giroud to play elsewhere if he has the chance to leave. The towering striker has scored 29 goals in 69 appearances for his country, but right now there are no guarantees of him playing in the World Cup considering the form of other French forwards across Europe.

The 31-year-old is yet to make a start this season, and he is behind Alexis Sanchez, Alexandre Lacazette and even Danny Welbeck for the striker role. However, he still has scored seven goals across all competitions during the current term.

Giroud contract ends in 2019, but there should not be a shortage for his services if he’s made available. Everton were keen to sign this past summer, and there is no question they would be happy to make a move for him if the chance arises.
