Chelsea have been quite active on their pursuit of a midfielder over the past few weeks, and all signs indicate they will make at least one more during the upcoming January transfer window.

The reigning Premier League champions have been connected with Gremio’s Arthur and are ready to battle FC Barcelona for the Brazilian’s signature, but he’s not the only player they are targeting. They also have their eyes on CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin, according to the Mail, and would be keen to sign the talented playmaker during January.

Unlike in other case, the one behind the idea of signing Golovin is no one other than Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich, as the Russian millionare is in love with the CSKA Moscow star, and would be keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge before other clubs make a move for him. And he also believes Golovin would be quite cheaper now compared to a potential fee after the World Cup.

The 21-year-old central midfielder is a steady member of the Russia national team set to play in next year’s World Cup, and Abramovich believes he could be far cheaper now. In fact, the Mail reports that they could sign Golovin for around £15m now — less than they would be likely to have to pay in the summer. There would likely be a bidding war for his services once the World Cup ends.

Golovin has also been linked with Arsenal, but it seems Chelsea have the edge thus far. But everything will depend on whether they make now, or if they wait until the summer.
