Real Madrid were linked with several midfielders during the recent transfer window. Los Merengues had connections with names such as Giovani Lo Celso, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek this past summer, but in the end, they didn’t sign anyone. But according to a report from AS, they are looking to make another push for Van de Beek on 2020.
Van de Beek was one of Madrid’s biggest targets this summer, along with the likes of Pogba and Christian Eriksen, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur. But Zinedine Zidane was the reason why the negotiations between Ajax and Madrid didn’t progress. The French manager wanted his countryman to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu, and no other player would fit his system.
However, Van de Beek has enough traits to play for Madrid and the Spanish giants believe another season at Ajax would benefit the young Dutch playmaker. The Liga giants are keen to make another move for the Dutch midfielder, but they want him to take another step before moving to Madrid.
Ajax were keen to negotiate a potential transfer for Van de Beek, as they were open to part ways with their star player for around €50 million. But if Van de Beek repeats what he did last season, then Ajax would have enough reason to increase a potential transfer sum next summer.
