Without much to cheer about this season, Crystal Palace are continuing the search for a striker who will score the goals to steer them to safety. The latest name to come to the top of their list is Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun, according to the Croydon Advertiser.
Already being regularly scouted by Newcastle United, Tosun’s value has increased to €25m since Palace failed with an attempt to snare the Turkish international in the summer.
So far this season, Tosun has scored three and recorded two assists in his nine appearances for his club as well as the only goal of the game during Turkey’s 1 – 0 World Cup 2018 qualifier win over Croatia in Eskişehir.
Palace by contrast have yet to register a goal in the Premier League this campaign. No points, no goals; Roy Hodgson’s appointment failed to yield immediate results and with January still eight games away, these are desperate times at Selhurst Park.
This year’s hero comes in the shape of a German-born Turkish international whose goalscoring feats in the past two seasons demand respect. 44 goals in 99 appearances is the stuff Palace fans can only dream of.
Having clawed their way free of relegation last season, the Eagles find themselves firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with little sign of the dramatic turnaround in form which they need to survive.
