One of the biggest disappointments in the Premier League this season has been Ross Barkley. The talented Everton playmaker is yet to play this season due to injury, and all signs indicate he will be leaving The Toffees sooner than later.
Barkley should have several suitors for his services. But according to a report from The Mirror, both Chelsea and Tottenham are set to battle to acquire him. Both sides already expressed interest for the 23-year-old during the summer, but the playmaker chose to remain at Goodison Park since he chose to take care of his rehab.
Let’s remember Barkley is yet to play this season due to a lingering hamstring injury.
The England international was reportedly keen on a move to Tottenham, but talks stalled and the move wasn’t completed. Chelsea agreed to a deal with Everton, but in that scenario it was Barkley who rejected a deadline-day move. Both sides will come for him once the January window opens.
The asking price will likely be significantly less than the £35 million the Blues agreed to with the Toffees late in the window, because the 23-year-old could leave Goodison Park on a free transfer in just a matter of months after the January window opens. But it would be a shocker if Barkley remains with Everton come February next year.
