Juventus and Manchester United have agreed (in principle) to a swap deal that would send Paulo Dybala to Old Trafford, while Romelu Lukaku would join the reigning Serie A champions. However, there are several hurdles to avoid if the deal is to be completed.

The biggest one is Dybala agreeing to personal terms with Manchester United, as the Argentinian star wants to remain in Italy instead of moving to England. But if both parties can’t agreed to a deal, then The Red Devils have already identified Mario Mandzukic as a potential back-up plan.

The Croatian knows what is like to play for a top team, as he also featured for Bayern Munich before moving to Juventus. Even though the talented striker has left his best years behind him, he could be an effective alternative to bolster United’s attacking depth. He has not scored fewer than 10 goals in each of his last eight seasons.

It is worth noting that adding Mandzukic instead of Dybala would change the conditions of the swap deal, and it would force Juventus to add more money into the deal, something they might not be keen to do. Plus, Inter Milan are also monitoring the situation and are reportedly preparing an offer in case Dybala rejects an Old Trafford switch.

The one thing that’s clear is that this transfer saga is not going to end any time soon.
