Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich central defender Jerome Boateng, claims talkSPORT.

The Germany international was expected to move to Paris St-Germain but the deal collapsed when terms could not be agreed.

Bayern’s £50m valuation may prove a significant obstacle but United are keen to line up an alternative to Barcelona’s Yerry Mina.

The Red Devils agreed personal terms with the 23-year-old’s representatives and are opening negotiations with the Blaugrana for the Colombia international. Despite being confident of completing a deal, United’s summer has been so woeful, they are taking nothing for granted.

Boateng previously spent a year with Manchester City and would join an exclusive band of players, including the legendary Denis Law, to have represented both clubs. Whether City fans will hold the German in such high esteem is another matter.

Speculation is rife that a deal for Boateng may involve Anthony Martial. The 22-year-old is out of favour with Jose Mourinho following his decision to stay away from the club after the birth of his first child.

The Portuguese, already dismayed the player cut short his involvement in the club’s USA tour, voiced his displeasure to the media, leaving no-one in any doubt that if a suitable offer is received, Martial will be sold quickly.
