After a failed stint at Manchester United, Lyon striker Memphis Depay has settled himself as one of the best players in the French Ligue 1 while also playing a key role on the Dutch National Team during the recent UEFA Nations League campaign. But the versatile forward has a pending matter with England, and is now keen to make a Premier League return.

Depay played for Manchester United between 2015 and 2017, but was never able to make much of an impact for the Old Trafford side. He’s been at his best playing at Lyon, though, as the positional change – used to be a winger – has benefited him greatly. This season alone, Depay has six goals and 12 assists in 28 appearances, showing the ability to both score and create at will.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Depay has two alternatives to return to the Premier League since he “wants” to play for either Manchester City or Chelsea. However, securing a move to The Citizens might be complicated since they don’t really “need” him with their abundance of attacking players. Chelsea might be a better fit, but they already have Eden Hazard and have secured Christian Pulisic for next season.

Furthermore, Manchester United inserted a buy-back clause when they sold Depay to Lyon two years ago, and they would get the “priority” to sign him back. So a return to Old Trafford shouldn’t be completely ruled out, either.

The only thing that seems clear by now is that Depay will definitively play in the Premier League next season. It only remains to be seen where.
