The future of Mesut Özil remains shrouded in doubt with rumours swirling that Arsenal are willing to listen to offers. One will be winging its’ way from Istanbul if a football.london report proves correct.
While the traditional Turkish giants already made their interest: Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce all declared their interest in signing the 30-year-old mercurial midfielder. However, it is currently Istanbul Basaksehir who are leading the charge for the German-born superstar, who is proud of his Turkish heritage.
With his Arsenal career stalling, the president of the Turkish club Goksel Gumusdag isn’t shy of making his interest in the Gunners star known:
“Mesut Ozil is a precious player.
“I hope one day our paths will cross at Basaksehir. If he wants to be with us as well, we would do anything to get him.”
The club has a history of selling its’ best players, most notably Cengiz Under who is currently with Roma. By a quirk of fate, Under is 21-year-old winger is a target of Arsenal this winter.
Özil’s future holds the key to Arsenal’s spending plans this winter. With Aaron Ramsey, 28, set to leave the Emirates on a free transfer, there are few options for Unai Emery to bolster his transfer war chest through sales.
While speculation is dismissed by some as being motivational, the frequency of rumours suggests there is more at play than simple transfer gossip.
