Everton Prepare Kodjia January Bid

Their continuing search for a consistent goalscorer has taken Everton to the west Midlands and Villa Park and Ivory Coast international Jonathan Kodjia, 27, is, reports the Birmingham Mail, their target.

Kodjia has scored 38 goals in his last two seasons in English football, 19 apiece for Bristol City and Aston Villa.

After initially struggling during Roberto di Matteo’s reign at Aston Villa, his form picked up after the arrival of Steve Bruce. A broken ankle ended his 2016/17 season prematurely and only returned to the side during the goalless draw against Middlesbrough three weeks ago.

Everton sold Romelu Lukaku, 24, to Manchester United in the summer and while he scores for fun for the Red Devils, it’s a different story at Goodison Park. The Toffees have managed just four goals in six Premier League matches, two of which came in the weekend’s win over AFC Bournemouth.

Ronald Koeman is under pressure to deliver results after a mediocre start to the season and the lack of goals is a desperate problem which he needs to resolve quickly.

Having finished seventh last season, hopes were high before the season began that Everton would be on the fringes of the top four. At the moment, that seems a distant dream.
