As soon as Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid to join Juventus, fans immediately asked for Eden Hazard as the replacement for the Portuguese star. However, the Belgium international is not going to join the Santiago Bernabeu outfit… at least, during the current transfer window.
Los Merengues discussed the possibility of signing the talented Chelsea playmaker, but Real Madrid are set to go in a different direction. Instead, manager Julen Lopetegui will feature Isco as Ronaldo’s replacement, which could mean two things. 1) Lopetegui wants Isco to embrace the challenge of filling Ronaldo boots, or 2) the team wants to add reinforcements in other positions, such as striker or goalkeeper.
Furthermore, newly-appointed manager Maurizio Sarri wants to offer Hazard the captaincy at Chelsea in an effort to convince him to stay at Stamford Bridge, as this would be the perfect way for the former Napoli boss to show Hazard that he is indeed an important part of the club going forward.
With that scenario, all signs indicate that Hazard is not going to leave the Premier League any time soon. Only time will tell whether Los Blancos are making the right move or not, but they deserve the benefit of the doubt based on their recent track record. Plus, with one month left in the transfer market for Spanish sides, they have enough time to find another potential replacement for CR7.
We only know that Hazard is not going to be that man.
