Samuel Umtiti seems to have his days numbered at FC Barcelona. Despite his good performances, the French centre-back is being constantly linked with a move away from Camp Nou once the current season comes to an end.
Umtiti had already been linked with moves to Manchester United and other top sides, but Arsenal have reportedly entered the race for his services. According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, The Gunners are entertaining the possibility of submitting a bid for the French star, who might end up becoming available even if Los Blaugranas do not complete a switch for Matthijs de Ligt.
Considering one of the biggest weaknesses on the current Arsenal squad is the defence, Unai Emery wants to solve that issue despite the club’s limited transfer budget for the summer. And while €40million might not be enough to capture Umtiti, don’t expect Arsenal to back dowon the pursuit of the 25-year-old defender.
Umtiti has said time and time again that he wants to stay at Barcelona. But if he starts playing less and less, don’t expect him to stand pat. And considering how keen Ernesto Valverde is of Clement Lenglet, it seems as if Umtiti will become the club’s third centre-back sooner than later.
