Monaco have always been considered a team that knows how to invest on young players. They had Kylian Mbappe last season, this year they have Thomas Lemar and Youri Tielemans, and others are coming up with the team, such as Keita Balde – who joined this past summer from Lazio.

But Les Monegasques have added another coveted youngster to their squad, reportedly securing a move to acquire the services of Genoa’s rising star Pietro Pellegri for a €25 million fee.

The move itself is quite shocking, as the 16-year-old forward (yes, you read that right) spent most of the January transfer window linked with a move to Juventus. But Monaco stepped ahead of everyone else, and managed to snap the talented youngster in order to bolster their attacking for both the short- and long-term picture.

“I am very happy to join Monaco. I was very quickly convinced by the project, which allows youngsters like me to progress and flourish in the future,” Pellegri told Monaco’s website. “I will work hard to become an important player for the club in the future.”

Pellegri tied a record as the youngest player to appear in a Serie A game in December 2016, when he debuted aged 15 years and 280 days. He is considered as one of the top talents in Europe, and now he will get the chance to continue his growth playing in one of the top sides in the Ligue 1.
