Arsenal’s £35m Wissam Ben Yedder bid rejected by Toulouse

Arsenal search for a striker has taken them to Toulouse and free-scoring Wissam Ben Yedder, 25.

Lyon confirmed yesterday that they had rejected the Gunners bid of £35m for Alexandre Lacazette, 25, whilst Gonzalo Higuain, 28, has completed his move to Juventus, leaving Arsène Wenger frustrated in his search for additional firepower.

Sevilla are also interested in the diminutive striker. West Ham wanted a year-long loan deal due to concerns over whether he could withstand the physical nature of the English game.

However, Toulouse are only interested in a permanent deal with a fee of £8m mooted. That appeals to the Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger, who views the signing as low risk.

Arsenal faded in the title race last season as Olivier Giroud, 29, went 15 games without a goal and Wenger is determined to ensure that a repeat is avoided this time around. With Danny Welbeck, 25, out until spring next year, Wenger is actively seeking to strengthen his forward line.

The Spanish club face losing Kevin Gameiro, 29, this summer and are looking to sign a replacement before the French international leaves.

Only Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 34, and Lacazette have scored more in Ligue Un than Ben Yedder’s 62 goals over the past four seasons.
