Bayern Munich chairman Uli Hoeness already said it last week that Bayern Munich were keen to spend “a lot of money” during the summer transfer window. And while many thought they weren’t really going to do it, it seems the Bundesliga giants mean business.
According to a report from French outlet France Football, Lucas Hernandez will complete a transfer to Bayern Munich this summer, but it will not be a “typical” deal. It is expected to break all records in the Bundesliga, as the current champions are eager to spend a total of €160m on this deal. And in fact, this deal would transform Lucas into the most-expensive defender in football history.
Indeed, the Atletico Madrid left-back and French international will join the German powerhouse for a reported €85m fee, equivalent to the release clause of his current contract with the Spanish club. But they’re also ready to spend €75m in wages over the course of the six-year contract.
With those details, Hernandez would play for Bayern until the end of the 2024-25 season while securing a hefty salary of €12.5 million per year, or just over €240,000 per week.
Undoubtedly, this will be a transfer that will change the landscape of the Bundesliga. But now it remains to be seen whether the French star will live up to the expectations in one of the biggest clubs in the world.
