Gary Medel could be close to return to the Italian Serie A.
The defensive midfielder – who can also operate as a centre-back – has been playing for Turkish Super League side Besiktas over the past few years. However, the former Inter Milan star is only “details away” from returning to Italy. The Chile international is widely expected to join Bologna.
In fact, recent reports have indicated that Bologna have already reached an agreement with Besiktas for the transfer of Medel. There shouldn’t be many issues to agree on personal terms between the Italian club and the player, so Medel could have a new team relatively soon.
The former Boca Juniors and Sevilla player would arrive to Bologna to replace another Chilean, as star midfielder Erick Pulgar left the squad to join Fiorentina earlier this summer.
Medel, 32, has been one of Chile’s most consistent players in Europe over the past few years. He has already played for Inter Milan in Italy, so he knows the league quite well, and also has enough experience to settle and become a starter right away.
The defensive specialist has also won 123 caps for La Roja throughout his career. Bologna would represent his fifth team in Europe after previous stints at Sevilla, Cardiff City, Inter and Besiktas.
