Man City open fresh talks over £50m John Stones transfer

It’s been the summer’s ongoing domestic transfer drama but Everton’s John Stones, 22, may be about to see his dream move to Manchester City happen.

The two clubs have re-opened talks after the England international told the Toffees new boss Ronald Koeman that he wanted to move to the Etihad.

City had been waiting for the Everton board to consider the request and will resume negotiations over the £50m fee. Pep Guardiola is keen to resolve the situation and bring the defender on board to work with him during the remainder of the pre-season.

Away with the first team squad in China for friendlies against Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in the International Champions Cup, Guardiola has requested that the City hierarchy complete the deal ahead of their return to England.

With just a friendly against Arsenal in Gothenburg to play after this tour ends, Stones has little time to adapt to Guardiola’s methods before the opening game of the Premier League season against Sunderland.

The Spaniard was praised by Fabian Delph last week with the midfielder claiming he had learned more from Guardiola’s short time in charge than he had in the whole of his career to date.

City are expected to officially table a bid this week once the outline of the deal has been agreed.
