Inter Milan are details away from making a huge signing to bolster their defensive depth, as the Serie A giants are set to finalise a move to acquire long-time Atletico Madrid captain, and Uruguay international, Diego Godin.
The towering defender, who’s been one of the best centre-backs in Europe over the past few years, has been very vocal on his desire to leave Spain once the current season ends and considering his contract is about to expire, Atletico have chosen to sell him during the January transfer window in order to get something for him.
Inter Milan have been heavily linked with a move for the Uruguayan and they have not denied their interest. In fact, a recent report from Sky Sports Italy has revealed that there’s an agreement in place and Godin already passed the medical earlier this week. Therefore, the move should be officially announced sooner than later.
Godin would make an excellent partnership with Milan Skriniar, although the Slovakian could leave the side as well since he’s been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. But even if Godin joins Inter solely as a replacement, he’s still a very good player and one that should bolster the side’s defensive depth considerably.
