Barcelona are in advanced talks to sign Real Betis defender Junior Firpo. Diario Sport are claiming the deal is close to getting done, which shows that Barcelona is thinking about the future. The days of Jordi Alba at Nou Camp are far from over, but the experienced left-back that is more of an auxiliary winger is not getting younger.
That is why the potential signing of Firpo will make even more sense for all Barcelona fans. The Spanish champions have identified the 22-year-old as their primary transfer target but a deal will not be completed until Betis return from their pre-season tour of Mexico.
Firpo played recently for Spain’s Under-21 squad at the UEFA European Championship for that age group and La Roja duly delivered. Juan Firpo was a regular at left-back, with Spain winning the tournament. He also contributed three goals and four assists in 24 La Liga appearances for Betis last season.
