Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert told his son to look for a move to the Blaugrana, not Manchester United, reports FourFourTwo.

Speaking ahead of the Netherlands 1 – 0 defeat to England on Friday night, the former Dutch striker said, ” I’m very proud of him. He’s doing very good at Ajax.”

“Of course, I prefer that he goes to Barcelona but in football, everything can happen…He’s an adult, he can make his own decisions but he’s already said it’s a dream for him to play for Barcelona. But you never know in football.”

The Premier League giants were reportedly at the head of the queue for his signature if he chooses to leave Amsterdam, but his father’s words cast doubt on whether they can make a deal happen.

Of course, there’s an element of wishful thinking on Kluivert Senior’s words. However, he omitted Jose Mourinho’s side when he listed his contenders for the Champions League. Manchester City and Bayern Munich were the pair he identified alongside Barcelona.

Justin, 18, has netted 7 times in the Eredivisie this season, earning himself his first call-up to the Netherlands senior squad for the England match. An unused substitute, he will be hoping to earn his first cap on Tuesday night against Portugal.

“He’s now a first XI [Ajax] player,” said Patrick Kluivert. “If he’s playing like this in the long-term, he could be one important player in the future.”
