One of the hottest rumours during the January transfer window was the Gonzalo Higuain saga, but now that the Argentina international has joined Chelsea on loan until the end of the season, AC Milan needed to find a replacement. And that’s exactly what they’ve done with the signing of Krzysztof Piątek.
The Poland international has been one of the biggest surprises in the Serie A during the current season since he’s one of the league’s top scorers despite spending the first half of the season with Genoa. But now he’ll get the chance to play for a bigger club, with bigger aspirations but also with more talented players surrounding him, such as Suso or Hakan Calhanoglu.
The talk of Piątek joining Milan started as soon as Higuain seemed set to leave the Rossoneri following a poor first half of the season. With the Argentine striker gone, now there was a huge void left to fill out at Milan. And they certainly hope the Polish forward – who has been dubbed as the new Robert Lewandowski – can accomplish that.
Piątek, who joined Genoa at the beginning of the season, has been on top form during most of the campaign and has 13 goals in 19 league appearances. He’s one goal away from the top of top scorers of Cristiano Ronaldo, Duvan Zapata and Fabio Quagliarella.
