Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph emerged as a shock target for Turkish giants Besiktas, claims talkSPORT.

A member of the England squad at this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia, Delph proved a useful utility player for Pep Guardiola last season.

As Benjamin Mendy recovered from serious injury, Delph filled in at full-back as Manchester City romped to the Premier League title.

With Mendy now fit and Riyad Mahrez joining in the summer, Delph’s opportunities for first-team football at the Etihad are becoming limited.

He moved to Manchester City in 2015 but has just 69 appearances under his belt. His contract is set to expire in 2020, with City ready to cash-in next summer rather than see the player walk away on a free transfer twelve months later.

Besiktas hope the 28-year-old will be persuaded by the club’s continued Champions League appearances, as well as the prospect of challenging for a league title each season.

Turkish media reports claim Besiktas director Ali Naibi met with Txiki Begiristain, his Manchester City counterpart, to discuss a loan move for Delph.

With the English Premier League transfer window now closed, the former Aston Villa midfielder faces dropping into the Championship or moving abroad in pursuit of a regular place in a starting line-up.
