Everton favourites to land Yacine Brahimi from FC Porto

Everton are favourites to sign Yacine Brahimi, 25, from FC Porto.

The two clubs are in talks over a fee with the Portuguese giants wanting £40m for the Algerian winger who has 28 caps for his country.

Arsenal were heavily linked with Brahimi but with Arsene Wenger concentrating on his defensive options, the Toffees have stolen a march over the north London club.

Whilst the talks are said to be cordial and progressing well, Ronald Koeman still faces problem persuading Brahimi to move to Goodison Park. The Algerian international is believed to prefer a move to a Champions League club, something Arsenal can offer him if they firm up their interest.

Sensing that may be the player’s intention, Porto omitted the winger from their squad for the Champions League play-off against Roma. The former European champions face an uphill task of reaching the group stage following the 1 – 1 draw at Estadio do Dragao last week’s first leg.

Brahimi was the subject of a bid from an unnamed Chinese club recently but rejected a move to the Far East out of hand.

Koeman recently criticised the pace with which Everton’s transfer deals have been progressing and is keen for this deal to be struck quickly.
