BREAKING: Jamie Vardy rejects Arsenal, signs new Leicester deal

Jamie Vardy, 29, has pledged his long term future to current club Leicester City and signed a new bumper 4 year contract with the Premier League champions.

Leicester released the following statement: “Leicester City have today agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international’s contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years.”

The news will come as a major blow to Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger who had triggered the strikers release clause days before Euro 2016.

It was widely expected Vardy would join the Gunners, however with the delayed decision Arsenal had been expecting the worst. Today that expectancy has been confirmed as Vardy snubs a move to the capital.

Leicester went on the say “Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long-term commitment to Leicester City Football Club. There will be no further comment from either the club or the player on this matter until the conclusion of the tournament.”

With the Football Writers Player of the Year’s future now settled, it paves the way for Vardy to focus on his international duties with England and Arsenal to work on new targets.
