Arsenal continue to overhaul their defence with more focus on goalkeepers, according to the Sunday Express.

Having already signed Bernd Leno, 25, from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, the Gunners are locked in talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over Switzerland international Yann Sommer, 29.

The current duo of goalkeepers at the Emirates are both linked with moves away from north London. Roma is the latest Serie A side to show an interest in 36-year-old Petr Cech, having sold Alisson to Liverpool in a record-breaking £66.1m deal last week.

David Ospina, 29, is attracting attention from Turkey, where Besiktas are prepared to act on their long-held interest in the Colombian. Closer to home, Premier League new boys Fulham are keen to bring the experienced goalkeeper to the banks of the River Thames.

Since arriving at Monchengladbach, Sommer built a reputation as a strong shot-stopper, proving himself athletic at both this summer’s World Cup and Euro 2016.

A key requisite for Emery is strong distribution skills with both Leno and Sommer an upgrade on the current incumbents.

Whether Sommer will want to reignite his battle for the number one shirt is another matter. He saw off Leno when he signed for Borussia but this time, the answer may not be so clear-cut.
