Atletico Madrid’s manager Diego Simeone is known for keeping a close eye on the Argentinian market. Due to this, it shouldn’t surprise anyone to see that Los Colchoneros are getting linked with one of the best players in Boca Juniors, one of the top clubs in the Argentina Primera Division.

According to a report coming from ESPN, the Liga giants are interested in signing Nahitan Nandez. The talented central midfielder has been one of the best holding midfielder in South America during 2018, and his performances have also allowed him to become a regular in the Uruguay national team.

At only 22 years of age, Nandez seems ready to make the jump to a more competitive environment. His display against River Plate during the 2018 Copa Libertadores final at Santiago Bernabeu was extremely impressive, and apparently several of Europe’s top clubs have already expressed interest in his services.

In fact, Inter Milan have also been linked with a move for Nandez, but Atletico currently lead the race to acquire the former Peñarol star. It has been reported that the Uruguayan is Simeone’s top transfer priority this winter.

Nahitan Nandez is on a $25 million release clause which should not be too big of an obstacle for Atletico Madrid. He joined Boca Juniors in 2017 from Penarol, making 30 appearances for them while also winning 20 caps with the Uruguayan national team.
