Fiorentina have been fairly quiet during the summer transfer window and until Wednesday August 21st, their biggest signing had been Erick Pulgar. However, the Serie A side has shocked the world after announcing their latest signing.
The Viola side have reportedly struck a deal to sign former 2006 World Cup runner-up and former Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery on a free transfer. The veteran French winger was out of contract ever since his deal with Bayern ended last season, but now he will get the chance to feature in the Serie A after a long stint with Die Roten.
Ribery played for Bayern Munich since the 2007-08 season, where he netted 85 goals and 121 assists only in league play. He also played for Galatasaray, Olympique Marseille, FC Metz, Stade Brestois, Olympique d’Ales and US Boulougne in the past. This will be his first period featuring in the Serie A, and he joins a side that has a clear goal – reach the UEFA Europa League ahead of the 2020/21 season.
Ribery, who also scored 16 goals with 20 assists in 81 caps with Les Bleus, is clearly far from his best form. But as an experienced player who still owns a blistering pace, he should be good enough to feature for Fiorentina on a regular basis despite being 36 years old.
