Newcastle United have already signed Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United in January, but now they could be turning their attention to another play of Five Stripes. Josef Martinez is the latest rumoured target of the Magpies, as the Venezuelan striker is breaking all the records in MLS.
Martinez scored a brace against FC Cincinnati on Thursday, which improved his own record of most consecutive league games in which he scored up to 15. During that timeframe, Martinez scored 21 goals in 15 matches, including six braces, and now Newcastle could try to get him to reunite with Almiron.
The Venezuela international also holds records of the most hat-tricks scored in MLS history and most goals scored in a single MLS regular season, which he set in 2018. He also won the MLS Cup in 2018 with Atlanta United. Now it only remains to be seen how interested Newcastle really are.
