It’s going to be a bumper winter for Cagliari with Tottenham telling the Italians they are willing to improve on the £35m bid already lodged, reports talkSPORT.

The north London club isn’t going to have the fight all their way with Arsenal interested, as well as Napoli leading a posse of Serie A clubs hoping to land the 21-year-old midfielder.

A precocious talent, Barella shone for his club and also on the international stage during a difficult spell for Italy.

After failing to make a single signing during the summer, Daniel Levy is under considerable pressure from supporters to deliver this winter. Plans are already submitted to Brent council for the club to play the remaining games of the season at Wembley despite claims Tottenham’s new stadium will be ready in January.

Real Madrid’s interest in head coach Mauricio Pochettino remains undimmed, despite Santiago Solari’s appointment at the Bernabeu.

Despite Pochettino’s faith in his squad, a title challenge cannot emerge without reinforcements with supporters fearing this plateau is the end of the good times as stars depart to win trophies.

Landing Barella would be a significant statement of intent on the club’s part. Too late to save their Champions League campaign but soon enough to bolster their title tilt.
