Rumour: Guardiola sanctions £37m Toni Kroos transfer

Pep Guardiola has sanctioned a £37m bid for German international midfielder, Toni Kroos, 26. The Manchester City boss was alerted to Real Madrid’s willingness to sell when his name featured as a part of a deal to Paul Pogba, 24, from Juventus to the Bernabeu.

Kroos has featured heavily in the two German games in the group stage of Euro 2016 and was widely rated as Man of the Match in 2–0 victory over Ukraine in their opening match. Pundits were impressed with his all-round game, rating his defensive work and distribution highly as the tournament favourites have made a solid start in France.

Recent comments in the media from his brother suggest that Kroos is unhappy at being cast as makeweight in taking Pogba from Turin. It has opened the door to a move elsewhere with Manchester City the first to show genuine interest.

Real Madrid signed the midfielder for €25m in July 2014 and will be looking to double that price tag if they are prepared to sell the player. It would allow a cash bid for Pogba which Juventus may find more attractive as they look to sign Michy Batshuayi, 22, as replacement for Alvaro Morata, 23.

The Spaniard is attracting strong attention from the Premier League with one of Chelsea and Manchester United his preferred destination.

West Ham recently pulled out of the running for Batshuayi after Marseille rejected a £31m bid for the young Belgian.
