Manchester City are refusing to rule out taking Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal this January, reports Sky Sports.
Sanchez, 28, is out-of-contract in June and is widely tipped to reunite with Pep Guardiola within the next six months. The bookmakers rate the possibility of the move happening in January as genuine, 7/2 with BetVictor.
The Chilean was all set to join City in the summer, but the deal fell through on deadline day when Arsenal failed to land Thomas Lemar, 21, from Monaco in a £90m deal. Now the Gunners face the decision of whether to let Sanchez leave on a free transfer next June or collect a smaller fee than the £60m offered in August.
For City, the question may be determined by injuries to others. The weekend’s gruesome rumours about David Silva may force their hand if true. Everyone is hoping they are not.
At his press conference before Saturday’s 4 – 1 thrashing of Tottenham, Pep Guardiola wouldn’t be drawn on the club’s transfer plans this winter.
Sanchez is suffering from a dip in form, put down by many to the disappointment of the summer move collapsing. This season, he has netted 5 goals in all competitions, well below the expected levels.
Arsene Wenger is not keen on selling and rigorously denied Arsenal were ready to sell to balance the books.
