Manchester United have been looking to bolster their left-back position over the past few months.

Ashley Young has done a good job, but the former winger is not a natural to the role and sometimes struggles on the defensive side of the ball. Both Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind fit better on other roles, as the Italian plays as a right-back and the Dutch performs better as a defensive midfielder. And Luke Shaw has struggled to recover match fitness following his recent injury.

Based on that, United have started a scouting process all over Europe. And one of the players that has gained more attention from Jose Mourinho is Aaron Martin.

The United recruitment team took in their game against Levante last Friday, and have asked to be kept up to date on the defender’s future plans. Martin has quickly emerged as one of the best players for Espanyol this season, and they already know they might lose him sooner than later. He is already attracting interest from several top sides in Europe, and both Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old as well.

Martin’s contract runs until 2022. United must approach and move quickly if they want to acquire him, however, as other clubs are reportedly lurking on the coveted left-back.
