There’s no secret that this season has been an absolute disaster for Real Madrid. Out of every single competition and with little chances to win the Liga title, it seems Los Blancos are already thinking towards the upcoming campaign. But one of their best defenders also have another thing on his mind.
According to a report from L’Equipe, star centre-back Raphael Varane has stunned bosses at the Bernabeu since the French international and World Cup winner is reportedly considering to leave Spain’s capitol. That is quite crazy since Varane is only 25 and has his best years ahead of him.
However, there’s a real possibility that Varane might simply want a new challenge. After all, he has been in the Spanish capital for eight seasons after signing for the club as an 18-year-old from Ligue 1 side Lens in 2011. He’s also win 16 trophies with the club and has won absolutely everything a player could actually lift at club level.
However, teams that can actually entertain the idea of signing him must know getting him won’t be cheap. Varane has more than three years left on his current contract, and his deal has a nine-figure release clause. He would surely eclipse the highest fee paid for a defender, when Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for around £75 million.
