Chris Smalling had changed the scenery last summer when he decided it was the right time for him to make a move and go to Italy on a season-long loan. It seems like it was a good move for both him and AS Roma, as everyone in Rome has been satisfied with his performances.

And now there are rumours that Roma might decide they want to buy Smalling from Manchester United on a permanent deal. According to Tuttosport, if they wish to do so, they will have to pay £18m to sign the centre-back.

The Italian giants are eager to bring the English defender onto their books at the end of his season-long loan deal at Stadio Olimpico. Smalling has featured in eight Serie A matches for Roma this term, scoring once. Now, it remains to be seen whether Man United will actually let that happen if they decide to in the end keep him and give him another chance.
