Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is at the heart of a Premier League transfer battle, according to Spanish media outlet, AS.

The Slovenia international is being eyed by both Arsenal and Liverpool as both clubs rebuild their squads.

Both clubs need to strengthen their goalkeeper departments. Arsenal face a crisis in 2019 when the contracts for both Petr Cech, 35, and David Ospina, 29, expire.

Cech remains the first choice at the Emirates and for the past three windows, Ospina has been linked with a move away. Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray were touted as potential destinations for the Colombia international.

Liverpool meanwhile face a weekly choice between the error-prone and hapless Simon Mignolet, 29, or hapless and error-prone Loris Karius, 24. Jurgen Klopp’s frustration with the pair is evident on the Anfield touchline on an almost weekly basis.

25-year-old Oblak is one of the continent’s most respected and sought-after goalkeepers, with Atletico determined to hold onto the Slovenian.

His contract reportedly includes a €100m release clause that the Rojiblancos will demand is met at the very least in what would be a record-breaking deal for a goalkeeper.
