Carlos Vela might be playing for Los Angeles FC in the MLS, but fans shouldn’t forget the Mexico international’s European pedigree thanks to his seven-year tenure at Real Sociedad prior to complete his stateside move. And that could be one of the reasons why the former Arsenal star might end up returning to Spain.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Cadena SER, FC Barcelona are reportedly considering Carlos Vela as an alternative to bolster their attacking depth. In fact, the interest would be so serious that he’s the team’s second alternative, behind Alvaro Morata but in front of other alternatives such as Christian Stuani and Olivier Giroud.

Sources from the United States have reported that LAFC are not aware of any official interest for the Mexican star, but at the same time, they acknowledge than an offer could be coming their way “sooner than later”.

Rumour or not, the truth is tt would be quite shocking to see Vela, who made his European debut with Arsenal in 2005 and had several loan spells in Spain, leave LA since he was signed one year ago to be the franchise’s cornerstone player.

The departure of Munir to Sevilla and the lack of depth behind Luis Suarez could certainly speed things up on a potential Vela move. The Mexican is coming off a solid debut season with LAFC, where he scored 14 goals and delivered 13 assists in 28 MLS appearances (26 starts).
