There’s absolutely no doubt in the world that Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is one of the most sought-after players in Europe ahead of the summer transfer market.
The talented defensive specialist got kicked out of the Champions League earlier this week when his side lost to FC Barcelona in the Round of 16. However, the French player showed some good things and, most importntly, he didn’t look overmatched when facing a team such as Barca. This should only bode well for his chances of leaving to a bigger club during the next summer.
Several Premier League sides, such as Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, have been linked with a move for the talented defensive midfielder. However, according to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Juventus are the ones leading the race to acquire him.
It’s unclear why this would make sense, though. Juventus already have a plethora of defensive midfielders such as Emre Can, Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic, although Ndombele could be an upgrade over the first two. Plus, the price tag could also become a factor. Ndombele would cost around €80m.
Juventus usually prefer to spend less on midfielders and more on attackers or defenders. But players such as Ndombele have the ability to change the game and if Juventus do not acquire him, other side will. The lone clear thing is that his days at Lyon seem numbered.
