AS Roma are looking to bolster their depth on defence ahead of the start of the 2019-20 Serie A season. Liverpool have one centre-back they’re looking to sell before the European transfer window shuts on September 2nd. On paper, this seems like a match made in heaven, right?

According to a recent report from Sky Italy, Roma continue to pursue Croatia international Dejan Lovren, and have even proposed a season-long loan deal for the Croatian as well as offering €15million upfront for the defender. However, The Reds remain unwilling to let Lovren go under those circunstances. They want the deal to be done on their terms, not Roma’s.

Lovren has fallen out of favour with Jurgen Klopp but due to the single fact that The Reds have far better options at centre-back, including Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip just to name a few.

AC Milan were also keen to make a move for Lovren, but they have backed out since then. And while Roma have also been linked with other defenders – mostly Alaves’ Guillermo Maripan – it seems as if Lovren is their top priority. Will these two sides reach a deal before the transfer window shuts next month?
