Manchester United received some unwelcome transfer news when star striker Alexis Sanchez admitted he has already planned his move away from Old Trafford.
The 29-year-old striker joined from Arsenal in January, but already knows where he wants to finish his playing days, reports the Daily Mirror.
Speaking after the Red Devils disastrous Champions League defeat at home to Sevilla, Sanchez declared “it would be my family’s dream” were he to retire at Universidad de Chile.
“My father who is now in Heaven was a supporter of La U,” he told Chilean TV, “and I think the truth is that a lot of my family would like me to end up there.”
He recalled his time in Chilean club football fondly. “I played for Colo Colo and the truth is that it was great,” Sanchez continued. “I won a lot of things with them.”
Revealing the idea of playing out his career with Universidad is sentimental, but Sanchez was philosophical about the future. “I think people are going to understand it because it’s a dream my dad had and God willing I am going to fulfil it.”
He has been roundly criticised by former players and fans for his performances since joining and on Tuesday night created a new Champions League record by giving the ball away 38 times in the first half.
If his form doesn’t pick up soon, it seems there are plenty around Old Trafford who believe his retirement may come around sooner than he thinks!
