Newcastle United are preparing two January loan deals as they find themselves dragged into the relegation zone, reports the Daily Star.

With the Amanda Staveley’s takeover bid for the club back on track, the current board and soon-to-be owners signed off on a transfer budget of £20m for manager Rafa Benitez to spend in the coming transfer window.

The Spaniard is keen to add Liverpool‘s Danny Ings, 25, and Luke Shaw, 22, from Manchester United in loan deals with an option to make the moves permanent next summer.

Both players have a chequered injury past and Benitez wants a ‘try before you buy’ deal to make sure both are fully recovered. Newcastle’s plight is such that he needs to be sure his squad will be up to the rigours of the battles ahead.

Signing the duo won’t be easy. Albion boss Alan Pardew admitted earlier this week that he was keen to sign Ings while Southampton are also looking to end Shaw’s Old Trafford nightmare.

Benitez told the press before the home defeat to Everton that he also needs to land a goalkeeper and midfield creator.

The Magpies find themselves just a point outside the bottom three and desperate to avoid a quick return to the Championship.
