Julian Draxler has been through lots of ups-and-downs over his last two years, and was constantly mentioned as a potential departure from Paris Saint-Germain once the Ligue 1 giants signed Neymar during the summer transfer window.
However, the German midfielder has settled quite nicely and is playing regularly for Paris Saint-Germain so it seems his immediate future is set on stone for the moment. That hasn’t stopped teams from enquiring about him, and Bayern Munich have emerged as a candidate to acquire the 24-year-old.
However, Draxler has dismissed any potential speculation of a move away from Paris. While he acknowledged that a return to the Bundesliga “would be interesting”, he said he is not keen to leave his current club since he is focused “on the team’s big targets.”
It certainly makes sense for Bayern to pursue Draxler, though. Both the contracts of veteran wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are due to expire next summer, and the German champions see Draxler as the ideal replacement for any – or both – of them.
The Germany international signed for PSG from Wolfsburg for €40 million in January and is under contract until 2021. So unless Bayern offers a massive amount of money to PSG, it’s safe to say the former Schalke 04 star is not leaving French soil any time soon.
