Juventus already made the splash of the transfer window when they acquired Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. However, The Old Lady might not be done in the transfer market, and could be looking to add another player that featured for Los Merengues last season.
We are talking about none other than left-back Marcelo, who is widely considered as one of the best players in his position all over Europe. According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the reigning Serie A champions want to improve their left-back position following the likely departure of Alex Sandro, and the team believes Marcelo could be the ideal replacement.
The 30-year-old defender has spent the last 11 years of his career playing for Los Blancos and has been one of the few mainstays in a team that has always had a fair share of rotation on their squad players. But new challenges could come for him in the near future, as it has been reported that Juventus have been tracking him for quite a while.
It is unclear whether Real Madrid would be open for a sale, though. After losing Ronaldo, a potential departure of Marcelo would weaken the side even further, and it would be quite hard to replace him given the lack of elite full-backs in today’s world. After all, Marcelo has taken the spot left by his countryman, Roberto Carlos, and it looks less than likely that Madrid would let him go. At the very least, they won’t sell him for a small fee.
Juventus are aiming to build a super team ready to contend for the Champions League title as soon as next season. Will we see Marcelo alongside Ronaldo in it?
