PSG shock £153m transfer bid for Barcelona’s Neymar Jr.

After the loss of mercurial striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 34, Paris St. Germain are set to prove their tag as the world’s wealthiest football club by activating the £153m release clause of Neymar Jr, 24.

The Brazilian is facing calls from the Spanish authorities to stand trial for tax evasion and the French champions believe this may sway the player to leave the Camp Nou. Papers filed with the courts show that Neymar Jr’s basic wages to be astonishingly low at £77,000 per week and the Parisians will happily triple that figure.

The youngest of the famed ‘MSN’ strikeforce, Neymar scored 24 goals in 34 appearances last season as Barcelona stumbled over the finish line to become Spanish champions. The players agent, Wagner Ribeiro, has spoken in the past to the French media, claiming that if “PSG show an interest in Neymar, we can discuss it.”

Despite this, Neymar Jr has shown no outward desire to leave the Catalan giants. PSG, for all of their money, have yet to progress beyond the quarter-finals of the Champions League and with Ibrahimovic gone, the concern is that they lack a striker capable of making the difference.

Neymar Jr, a more creative player than the Swede, may be the marque signing that the fans desire but he isn’t a traditional centre forward and unless the Parisian club find a direct replacement for Ibrahimovic, they don’t seem likely to sate the desire for European glory any time soon.
