Premier League champions Leicester City are expected to add to their forward line this week by adding Lucas Perez – known simply as Lucas – 27, to their squad.
A £12.5m deal with Deportivo La Coruna is being discussed for the striker who scored 17 times in last season’s La Liga. It’s a move which would most likely quadruple his £20,000 per week wages.
With Leonardo Ulloa, 30, reportedly ready to leave the Foxes in search of regular first team football, Perez offers a free-scoring alternative to Jamie Vardy, 29.
The England striker turned down a move to Arsenal earlier in the summer and is keen for Claudio Ranieri to bolster his squad, as well as retaining Riyad Mahrez, 25. The Algerian winger has been heavily linked with the Gunners in recent weeks with reports of a £37m offer being prepared.
Lucas is a well-travelled striker. He left Rayo Vallecano in 2011 for Karpaty Lviv in Ukraine before moving to PAOK Salonika in 2013 after a disastrous six-month loan spell at Dynamo Kyiv.
Returning to La Liga in 2014, first on loan then in a permanent deal, the Spaniard has scored 23 goals in 58 appearances for the struggling Galicians. That experience will serve him well with a Leicester side expected to slip to mid-table next season.
