Gonzalo Higuain’s tenure at AC Milan might be (shockingly) over before just one season.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Marca, the former Argentina international is set to complete a Premier League switch to join Chelsea during the current January transfer window. This has been pushed by Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, who is keen to re-unite with the former Napoli star.

It’s fair to say Higuain probably reached his peak form while playing for Sarri at Napoli. He scored a record-breaking 36 goals during the 2015-16 Serie A season. And there’s no question Chelsea could use that kind of firepower upfront since Alvaro Morata has been a disappointment once again.

This is not the first time Higuain appears to be on the verge of joining Chelsea, since it already happened back in the summer transfer window but the deal never quite materialised. However, things have changed and now it’s safe to say that Chelsea are a little bit more desperate – which could lead to an improved offer.

The proposed deal would involve the 31-year-old joining the Premier League side on loan with an option to sign permanently in the summer for approximately £36 million.

The former River Plate and Real Madrid star hasn’t had his best season playing for AC Milan, netting only six goals in 15 Serie A matches, and eight goals in 20 appearances across all competitions.
