Alex Sandro, 26, is set to break Chelsea hearts by signing a new deal with Juventus. The Premier League champions offered the Brazilian international a £7m-per-year deal but the Turin-based club has matched that offer according to a Mail on Sunday report.
It adds to the growing frustrations of Blues boss Antonio Conte in the transfer market amid concerns at Stamford Bridge that the Italian is set to return to his homeland next summer.
Conte made no secret of his displeasure at missing out on a number of targets during the summer, compounding his anger at being unable to strengthen his defence as Serie A clubs hold out against Chelsea’s transfer onslaught.
The club is well aware that Conte’s stock in Italy remains high after his success with Juventus and the Azzurri, followed by landing the Premier League title in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Last summer, with Max Allegri heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, Conte was at the top of the Juve board’s list of replacements. However, it is the Milanese clubs which are leading the chase this time around.
Vincenzo Montella is expected to be replaced at AC Milan this season but Luciano Spalletti’s success in leading Internazionale to third in Serie A, to within three points of perennial champions, Juventus, is likely to save his job.
In the meantime, Conte continues to be denied progress in strengthening his squad as the Blues chase down the Mancunian clubs at the top of the Premier League.
