Olivier Giroud wants to leave Chelsea as soon as the first chance arises. And based on recent reports, the France international wants to explore that possibility once the upcoming transfer window opens up during January.
According to a report from French outlet L’Equipe, the former Arsenal star is set to push for a move away from The Blues in January as he wants to be playing regular first-team football ahead of the European Championships next year. Giroud should be a lock for the French squad, but his chances of playing a prominent role for Les Bleus in that tournament will decrease with each week he stays on the bench.
That is not expected to change at Chelsea any time soon. The veteran striker is third choice behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi at Stamford Bridge this season. Giroud has no one to blame, though. Abraham has been spectacular this term, and Batshuayi has takes his chances well.
The 33-year-old has been limited to just five Premier League appearances this season and is yet to find the back of the net.
Atletico Madrid are rumoured to be monitoring a January move for Giroud due to the potential departure of Diego Costa. However, there are no signs of a deal getting done any time soon. That only thing that seems clear is that Giroud will leave Chelsea soon if the chance arises.
