It took a bit longer than expected, but Valencia will finally sign the striker they were desperately looking for during the transfer window.

According to several reports, Marcelino’s men have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid to acquire Kevin Gameiro. The French striker was out of favour with Diego Simeone and needed to leave the side, but he will reportedly remain in Spain since he will sign a three-year deal with the Mestalla outfit. As such, he will be under contract until June 2021.

Both clubs have sealed a deal for a €14 million fee that will also include €6 million in different variables, so the total amount of the transfer could easily reach the €20M mark.

It must be noted that the deal won’t be officially announced until Atletico can sign a replacement for Gameiro, though. All signs indicate that Nikola Kalinic will be the chosen alternative to fill the void left by both Gameiro and Fernando Torres, but until the current Milan striker does not agree to a deal, Gameiro won’t be officially announced at Mestalla.

Gameiro spent the last two years playing for Atletico Madrid, although he was never able to become a regular starter in the club so he decided to search for greener pastures. During that two-year span, Gameiro tallied 27 goals and 11 assists across 82 appearances for Los Rojiblancos.
